Teen Driver Allegedly On Drugs Crashes Into Saugerties' Red Bridge, Police Say

An 18-year-old Ulster County driver told police that he took his eyes off the road while picking up an object from the floor of his car when he crashed into a bridge, but police said an investigation revealed that he was under the influence of drugs.

Russel A. Hughes was charged with driving with ability impaired by drugs and ticketed for failure to stay in the left lane on Monday, Dec. 1 at approximately 2:25 p.m, Saugerties police said. Hughes was reportedly uninjured when police arrived at the scene of the crash at the red bridge on Hill Street. 

He was released, and will be seen by a judge in the Village of Saugerties court later this month.
